Dancing With Strangers
Author(s):
Sandra Fenichel Asher
For each of the teenaged main characters in this trilogy of short plays, life is an intricate and often confusing dance: partners join in and depart for reasons that are not always clear, altering the rhythm and mood for better or worse. In the quietly moving "Blind Date," Dawn Covington faces her dependency on her mother and feelings of betrayal after her parents' divorce. "Perfect" finds Tara Owens with a secret she thinks will heal her lifelong loneliness: she's pregnant by a classmate she hardly even knows. And in the hilarious high-impact "Workout," boy meets girl, boy loses girl, and boy gets girl, all in the course of one aerobic class. Dancing With Strangers was a winner in the TADA! new play competition and was featured in the Discovery '93 summer workshop program sponsored by Chote Rosemary Hall. Simple sets.
